i've thought about getting a cat again, seeing as i see other people's kitties, and miss it.

pros:

- i wouldn't come home to an empty apartment every night, i would actually have a creature there happy to see me (or happy indifference, after all, we ARE talking about a cat..)
- the warm purry body on my lap.
- laughing as the cat does cute little kitty things, when he's cute to me, but a ferocious beast in his own mind.

cons:
- litterbox, litterbox, litterbox
- cats are nocturnal animals, and i live in a studio apartment, which means no locking Kitty out of the bedroom at night.
- additional costs for healthcare and food.
- having to 'kitty proof' the apartment, and not being able to leave simple things lying around for fear of distruction.
- pethair (i DO wear mostly black)
- extra cleaning to keep it from having 'pet smell'
- oh, and i almost forgot. the freeping pet deposit. nevermind.

I don't see your place as cat friendly.

I also see you stepping on the litter box one night. It's not a pretty picture.

Re:
Noooooo, not at all. But it wouldn't take much to get flying kitty litter all over the place.

Having a cat has made a huge different in my life...in good and bad ways. It's wonderful to come home to her, to watch her be fearless huntress of the living room, to see her do cute things etc. The kitty litter that last a month is your friend. I spend maybe $12 a month on litter, and it's not dusty so it doesn't make me cough or wheeze and the only time it has noticable litterbox smell is really, right before I need to change it. (The litterbox is in my bedroom, cause the bathroom was too small and I didn't want it near the kitchen. It's also a big covered box.)

I've found some good low cost pet healthcare, vaccinations and spay/neuter programs around here by calling the humane society, and county shelter. (It's especially important because I'm likely going to get a kitten in a few weeks.)

The biggest challenge for me so far, is that I need to plan a bit more if I go away for more than a day or two; if I go up to NY to be with my Dad after his surgery, I'll need to make sure I have a sitter because I'll probably be gone a week. That and the fact that I keep lint rollers all over my house to clean the fur off.

But it's so worth it having a furry pet.

Re:
aha.

i know from experience of having a cat before, that the humane society offers full shots/follow up shots and a spay/neuter for like $50. ($80 if you also want declawing, which i don't believe in doing)...

i do miss it, but dont' want to pay the $250 pet deposit.

*sigh*

I have 2 cats and live in a complex that doesn't allow pets at all. I love them to death, but the cat hair and litter does get really annoying sometimes. And, one of my cat has a really bad habit of peeing on things.

I'm going to try to have 2 boxes to see if that will solve the problem, and hopefully he will stop peeing.

I got my cats already neutered and declawed at a no-kill shelter in Mesa for..I think about $60 each.

Re:
i had thought about 'hiding' them, but they do frequent "manditory filter changes" a few times a year, to mostly check for unlisted animals. i think the deposit is $250, which i can't afford right now (i COULD be spending it on stuff to be a rock star.)

I think I would have to put kitty hair right under the litterbox! I always get a little surprise when I get in bed. I have learned to put a sheet over my bed so she can shed on it and I can shake the kitty litter off. I think Chilli is going to come and pick her up this week.
I'm going NUTS with all that hair every where!!! EEEKKK!!

Re:
Don't get me wrong. Salem is a great cat, but I can't handle the things that come with her.

Re:
in retrospect, i'm very happy i didn't get a cat at the time.. it would have been that much harder on the move adn such.

now that i have bacci, it seems like the perfect timing.. we have a giant apartment and she has many places to go once one of us moves.
