You're covered in Cats?

Does it hurt?

flea circus!
You should get a flea collar, they are probably all angry that they can't feast on the cats anymore :-(

Re: flea circus!
mom doesn't beleive in flea collars, cuz those stink and aren't 'heathy' for the cats.

which is also why we can't get a flea bomb, or vacuum often (cuz it scares them...)

*sigh*

*scratches feet ferociously*

Re: flea circus!
have you tried that advantage goo stuff? You just put it on the skin on the backs of their necks, and it keeps them flealess for a month!!

Re: flea circus!
yeah we go without it a lot of the time until someone somehow gets fleas (not sure how since they are indoor cats)

Re: flea circus!
the final kitten is getting ready to go, and after he goes, i'm HOPING that things will clear up. they keep letting the bona fide stray in, george, which i know is partly what kick starts the flea problem again.

they (mom and jess) keep telling me that the fleas will die when it gets cold, but i remember that when i was up here visiting two febs ago, by the time i left, my legs were COVERED with flea bites.

Re: flea circus!
things are better now that it's fuh-reezing outside. although ironically, i had a flea hitch a ride when i was leaving and it bit the hell out of my left ankle.. almost as if it knew i was leaving ;)

Re:
i'm STILL itching.

i've been having problems sleeping lately, or at least falling asleep..

.. i woke up about an hour after i had fallen asleep (early this morning) because my toes felt like they were on FIRE. they itched so badly that the painful itch incorporated itself into my dream, even...

.. i was up for about an hour, just itching my feet. i wanted to cry.

Drink lots and lots of coffee. Fleas don't like coffee drinkers blood.

Re:
you kidding me?!? i'm the only person in the house that DOES drink coffee, and i'm the only one getting eaten alive!

course, they were doing that, too, even when i wasn't drinking coffee...

Re:
Hmm... it must just be a coincidence then. I drink lots of coffee and fleas have never bothered me. When I was living with my folks and the cats had flea problems, the fleas would always bite them but they never touched me. I always assumed it was the coffee I drank, but maybe it was something else.

Re:
i've tried a million zillion home remedies. to date:

jessie: zero
mom: three
aubrey: five million, fifty-three thousand, five hundred and forty-two.

the only thing they can think of, was that last summer, they were completely swarmed and overwhelmed by them, so maybe they built up 'flea antibodies'?

that's very common. Fleas need a host and they prefer cats and dogs, but if they are defeated from their bodies, they will turn to human blood. They'll probably die soon enough. Wash all your sheets and towels and clothes and vacuum (and maybe even shampoo your rug) and it should get better.

Re:
i always have to sweet talk the hell out of mom to let me vacuum, because 'it scares the cats and thusly, it must be cruel'. *rolls eyes* i do as much as i can, though. we also have this citrusy natural repellant/killer spray, too, that i've been dousing the carpet and my chair with.

Re:
egads.

i truly, truly, do not see the POINT in fleas ever being invented. i mean, do any animals really FEED on them?!? and if they DO, there's an abundance of much larger insects to gourge themselves on...

*sigh*

Re:
*nod, nod*

unfortunately, mom is convinced that anything that inconveniences the cats (i.e. vacuuming, etc.) is therefore not worth doing, other than very rarely, which SUCKS. (or, i could make a pun and say it BITES.)

I used to have a gerbil and cats, so there were fleas and mites everywhere, and I was the only one with itchies all over me, I'd been to several doctors, and no one could give me anything that could help me. It wasn't until I removed the carpet in my room, took my gerbie (I didn't know he had mites) to get some mites/flea spray and sprayed every damn thing I could. I also gave the cats flea power baths and collars. Finally...I am bug free... ;)

Re:
I just recently found out from a vet that flea collars don't really work. Ha, it makes sense though when I think of all of the times I've seen my cat scratch his neck just by his collar. I think I even have a pic of that somewhere. heh

Re:
If you're really itching still you can buy a whole line of Aveno products that are great for that. They helped me when I was flea attacked. If you want I can send you some of the left over (unopened) packages I have left...
