i currently have Nickel Creek's self titled and both of October Project's in my cd player, with the 'random' button happily pressed... i'm really digging this slightly celtic sounding stuff.

i want more.

it's like crack.

or, maybe i'm growing up officially, and my tastes are turning naturally from the harder stuff to something more ... relaxing? will i be listening to neil diamond and barry manilow in a year or two or three?

but, seriously, folks, for any of you that have heard october project and/or nickel creek. do you know of anything else out there that is similar-ish?!?

and, also on that note, what download programs, (i.e. iMesh, audio galaxy) do you recommend, that are free? *cha-CHING* i'm most interested in one that does the following:

1) will not cause a partial recording or a download error if your person logs of or something else goes awry. it will cheerfully search for someone else with your selection and go on its merry way of downloading *insert here*

2) preferably downloads videos, too, so that i can get my paws on some mst3k shorts/eps...

(yes, i want all this AND a bag of chips, for FUH-REEEE, cuz i'm a cheap bitch these days....)

i'm also diggin these pajama bottoms. i must invest in more. someday.

I listen to Neil Diamond, and I am younger than you... hrm... I wouldn't call Neil light in the least. He's a rocker.

i have a much better appreciation for all that is neil diamond nowadays, compared to when i was a kid visiting my dad, and that would be all he would play.... ESPECIALLY the neil diamond Christmas album...

you rock :)
Try Loreena McKennitt.. she rocks the house as well. Very celtic. Her best album (IMHO) is "The Mask and the Mirror". Listen to some of the clips and let me know if you like it. :)

Also, for download programs, I'd check out WinMX, no spyware or anything.. works great.

Re: you rock :)
WINMX hasn't worked for me since the upgrade. I've downloaded it several times, never wants to stay connected. SoulSeek is allright as is Blubster.

I use newsgroups for bootlegs or cds, tho I may get mIRC. *shudder* KaZaA is a last resort. But that RUNS on spyware. I'm always having to use my AdAware to get rid of wot I can of their spy junk...

Re: you rock :)
since winmx was one of the first mentioned, i tried that.. so far, so good, although i can definitely see the problem with it disconnecting all the time...

i may be looking into another one soonly....

Re: you rock :)
thanks, i took your suggestion and downloaded winmx, so far, so good.

i also downloaded a bunch of loreena stuff, tho since my windows media player seems to be cranky today, i can't freaking listen to it *glares at pc*
Sep. 17th, 2002 07:57 pm (UTC)
Indeed, Loreena is good. If you want to broaden yourself a bit, you could try Kajiura Yuki. She's done some Celtic-ish tracks for the .hack//SIGN soundtrack: "Aura", "Key of Twilight" and "Fake Wings" (which are sung in English, actually. q>_>p;;)

but.....I'm old-ish....I still listen to heavy stuff.....let me know how that Neil/Barry thing works out. I'll need to know if I need to shoot my stereo....
Sep. 21st, 2002 05:10 pm (UTC)
thanks so much for the suggestion *writes Kajiura down* i'll check it out the next time i'm logged on :)

please get soulseek so i can steal stuff off your computer. and vice versa. yes, that was soul seek

your mention of celtic stuff is going to force me to dig up some Dropkick Murphy's or Flogging Molly. of course, that's not exactly "light" either.
Sep. 21st, 2002 05:14 pm (UTC)
ooh! thanks for the suggestion!!! :) i'll check out soulseek soonly and see what i can find... for right now, i'm on winmx...
Sep. 21st, 2002 10:39 pm (UTC)
alright ma'am, you just be sure and tell me when soonly comes.
Sep. 17th, 2002 09:17 pm (UTC)
I always use kazaa. It's the same as morpheus, pretty much.
Sep. 21st, 2002 05:15 pm (UTC)
morpheus! that's the one i was trying to think of that my bro was using when i visited him last....

there's also a program called direct connect. it has TONS of files. the major downer, a lot of the hubs you go to require you to share a certain amount of files to log into them. but this one guy was sharing 240GB worth of files from his computer. 240 GIGABYTES! they have tons of movies on them. I'd love to get a dvd-r but they're expensive right now still.
Sep. 21st, 2002 05:16 pm (UTC)
geez! what one can DO with a computer that holds that much!!!! my poor lil thing holds about 6 1/2... (it's old, obviously...)...
Sep. 18th, 2002 01:44 am (UTC)
Well, gosh. Howzabout Bela Fleck, with or without the Flecktones?

His projects away from the Flecktones tend more towards the bluegrass (any of his projects including Edgar Meyer is pure gold!), while the Flecktones band is all over the map - bluegrass, funk, jazz, and a bit of Celtic as well.
Sep. 21st, 2002 05:16 pm (UTC)
thanks so much! *writes down*

i'll check them out the next time i'm logged on!!!
Sep. 18th, 2002 01:46 am (UTC)

If you do find any programs that allow you to download MST3K eps, let me know.
Sep. 21st, 2002 05:18 pm (UTC)
i've found a bunch of eps on winmx, and a zillion shorts. the hardest part, is getting them *glares at door as neighbor rings doorbell and pointedly ignores it* to download before the person signs off.. but if they do sign off, then you can get more when they sign on again.....

i also managed to get a cute little excerpt of mike and the bots doing a commentary of a jerry springer thing on Talk Soup from it...
Sep. 18th, 2002 05:37 am (UTC)
I use kazaa
Sep. 21st, 2002 05:19 pm (UTC)
thanks! i may check out kazaa, cuz it seems the highest one given..

Celtic muuuuuuusic!!
Celtic stuff is so addictive, I also think Loreena Mckennitt is a good 'springboard' even though I haven't heard Nickel Creek. If you want hard core 'pub songs' Gaelic Storm is also really good.. and if you want something more 'rock', Young Dubliners sings old songs with attitude (my brother loves them) eheheh
