I was just watching a comic talk about how he used to work at Burger King. so, for some reason, it motivated me to name the jobs i've held in my lifetime:

Longview School District Print Center (1 year)
Wendy's (1 year)
various jobs in job corps, including the student store, the gym cage, and the art room
Imaginarium in Minnesota (a toy store that specializes in learning toys)
Warner Bros. Studio Store in Minnesota (where i got to escort Tweety, of all people.)
United Airlines (reservationist) in Virginia (4 months)
Waitress at a Italian Restaurant also in Virginia (for 3 days)
Burger King in Arizona
Hollywood Video (complete with cumberbund, bowtie and dress shoes)
Bookkeeper and Head Leasing Agent at Northern Point Apartments
Assistant Manager of Palm Aire Apartments (ooh do i have stories!)
Head Leasing Agent at Maya Linda Apartments
Wal*Mart again (part time)
Karaoke Host
Receptionist at a Law Firm
I.C.E. Gallery as a Travel Agent for mainly cruises
Collections Agent (1 week. i realized i had a soul.)
Michaels in Washington
Office Max

and that's all. at least i can say i have a wide spectrum of background experience ;)

Damn girl, you have had a lot of jobs! Hey, is it true that when you work at WalMart you have to do a WalMart cheer? That's what I heard somewhere. Michaels looks like it'd be a fun place to work, I love that store. I bet go-backs are a bitch, though..all that teensy weensy crafty crap in bins!

Burger King....mmmmm...I had a BK Veggie for lunch yesterday and it was sooooo good!

i think i remember hearing rumors about the Wal*Mart cheer.. wait.. i think i DID have to do it once or twice, but not often as i think they implimented it before i left the first time, and when i went back for a little 6 month part time stint, they had ceased doing it.

i think.

that part of my life is mainly a blur now ;)

I thought about putting a list of all the jobs I've had in my LJ but the fact that I quit several good ones for stupid reasons would probably make me slit my wrists.

i look back on my list and think that, too, though there were 3 in a row that i feel that i was fired or forced to quit from for stupid reasons (taking the fall for a manager that couldn't do her job, not being best friends with the district manager and the assistant manager over me blaming the staff for her shortcomings - we were all let go, and then one of the lawyers was beyond bipolar and gave me an impossible job to do in an insanely small amount of time and told me i was worthless because i wouldn't stay over 12 hours a day to get it accomplished..)

part of me is really sorry i quit the ice gallery, after 3 1/2 years of servitude. but i'm here for a reason - not to mention that most days i have WAY more fun working in retail than i ever did there...

there's quite a few on that list that i was fired from because i was too timid to stand my ground, which makes me bonk my head in frustration. granted, everything seemed to work out in the end, so...

hee hee. he IS fffffuckin' hellarious! so few comedians make me HAW HAW HAW anymore, since it seems like most comedic routines have been done and redone and regurgitated so many times by so many people that i normally don't do more than wryly smile during their routine.

but yeah. Dane Cook. I'd have his baybay!

what kind of law was it? mine was family law, so people were constantly coming in, freaking out about how they were the good one in the relationship and the soon to be ex was evil incarnate.

i also remember seeing that no matter how evil and psycho the mothers were, and how wonderful the fathers were, that the mother's would get the best end of the deal in the end. FRUSTRATING.

yup. for about 4 to 6 months. it sucked. granted, i got paid $50 for only 4 hours of my time, so technically the hourly pay was excellent, but dealing with drunk cranky people that were CONVINCED i had skipped them (though i was more fair in my rotations than most places i've been) was too entirely frustrating for me to continue doing it for very long.

my worst night was hosting at a cowboy bar where the YOUNGEST person in the bar was still approx 15 years older than me, and the owner of the bar sitting right next to my machine and telling me how stupid i was, how i didn't know how to do my job, that i was an idiot, that i was rude, etc.

i called my boss the very next day and said 'erm, yeah. i refuse to go back there, kthx.'

small world
I worked at Warner Bros. during the Xmas season. That was a pretty rough two weeks and I didn't get to escort any characters :-(

Re: small world
Tweetie at my store was a short, old, sweaty, angry lesbian.

though i suppose that WOULD 'splain a lot! i still have my work shirt from wb, though i think my brother stoled it. i remember i had a crush on one of the main guys that worked there, which is what spurred me to apply, ... scott? i think that was his name.

aaah, all the silly things i've done for the sake of LOOOOOVE.

May. 31st, 2005 06:56 pm (UTC)
yup. which is why i'm actually entertaining working retail for the rest of my life: you only VERY occasionally have to deal with district managers, and not the daily cutthroat of dealing with ceo's and department managers and and and...
