i find it funny, in a way, that although i spent age 13 to 19 in this area, and now that i've been here from 28 - 30, i still have only been to this gigantic gem once in my entire life, back when i was about 16 or so. i remember going with my friends at the time and how we swarmed over the new agey section and grabbed a ton of different spiritual and magick books, as that was what we were all interested in at the time. i also bought a robin hood tarot deck for my friend patrick, and he bought my cat people tarot for me (we had heard.. somewhere... that it's more efficient if someone gives your deck to you as a gift.)

i go by this place all the dang time during my various portland (p-town, yo) jaunts, but still have not gone in. and for being a used book store whore, you would think i would have built a hut out back for better ease of visiting the place.

i think i really really need to do more things in portland. i always feel so at home while i'm there, so much moreso than in vancouver. my SOUL feels at home in portland. i could never ever move there because of the crappy tax situation, but other than that, i believe i am HOME. i shall insert a mini rant about how i've lived all over the u.s. and have never felt nearly at home as i do in this area. my soul is home. and no, sillies, it's not because i had spent my teenage years SORT of in the area: we were about an hours drive north of here in a HORRIBLE town (Longview/Kelso - rumors have constantly flown around that the lead singer of Green Day used to live up there and wrote that song about that hideous place. i could never find any evidence of it. jeff pilson of dokken, yes. we had the same guitar teacher, afterall. i saw his high school yearbooks. funny stuff.) while living there, i almost never went to portland, as my family didn't drive at all. i got to go to a handful of concerts that i had to practically break my back to get to.

but i digress.

andrea has been saying that she wants to do more stuff after the whole wedding thing, which i think is a good amount of time to get my shiat in gear to be able to do such things, i.e. finances and all that crap. i would really like to start going to more live shows and having a bit more stuff to write up on about for FlavAZ than the boring monthly LP review i have been doing, one on an ancient cd, and the other two on greatest hits albums, for jimmy's sake.

so this fall? lookout portland, here i come!

If you are spending more time in P-Town, make a trip to The Bitter End (downtown around 20th and Burnside) for open mic night on Sunday. A few friends of mine go there pretty much every week ( I go when I can drag myself out of the house) and they'd love to see a new face.

if i can manage to get caught up on crap than we could even do portland adventures sooner than two months from now.
I'm dying to hit saturday market.
Joel and I were talking about going to clubs or something in the evenings in portland.. like i could bus or max down town and meet him after work and then hit a club or a bar or walk 23rd or something and then max back to his car at the end of the evening... maybe some monday we could organize it when you have the day off and it'd be awesome.

I've never lived anywhere but here. Kind of sad, really...

not really. i always feel a bit discombobulated because of living so many places, i never know what to respond when people ask what my hometown is.

I was going to post pictures of excited babies from google image to convey to you my happiness of your threat of portland-visitng. But i just couldn't do it.

but YAY anyhow. and give me a call when you do.

and someone else mentioned the Eels playing soon, and you *should* go to that show because the Eels are amazing, and also because I will be there.

that is all.

I really need to figure out the whole p-town public transit thing and overcome my massive fear of it. i have lots of afternoons off and may as well journey down there.

for days i'm not carrying a gazillion school books with me, of course.

and i suppose that it would be helpful if i had more money so that i wouldn't be as obsessed with spending monies on books that i really can't afford (nor need)

Per a friend from the bay area, Green Day actually is from the UC Berkeley area.

And Longview/Kelso is my old stomping ground, Kelso class of 99.

aww, you're such a youngin' - I was originally class of '93 at R.A. Long :)

that is, until i decided to not show up for the majority of my 9th grade year, which resulted in my having to repeat it. woops?

I also went to Mark Morris (gag) and Natural (the alternative high school there, when it still existed.)

What color BMW did you have?

har har.

i actually went to the alternative school, natural. because i was a bit more... intelligent and devoted than their average alternative high school student, they taught me what i could, and then automatically signed me up for mark morris.

needless to say, i did NOT fit in. less than two months after that, i dropped out, although i only had about a year left.

(went 'back' while in job corps, though, and got my GED, then my high school diploma, though it says i graduated from Spokane Community College.)
