Jul. 20th, 2005

i was talking to a coworker today who told me that as much as he loves working with all of us, if he was offered a job with benefits, he would have to take it, because he needs to look out for HIM. i told him that the best advice i ever received in life was when my mother told me - as i was leaving home 3 months after my 18th birthday - "Aubrey, live your life for YOU." She wanted me to make decisions not because of others, to not lose weight for boys, to not sacrifice my happiness to appease anyone. that it is MY life to live, and i have to live with my choices.

what is the best advice that you ever received?

as always, tickled pink when running into people i know. today, oatmeal came to say hullo, and it clicked that i haven't seen him since DaDa in '03. cheez, that's a long time to not see someone that lives PRACTICALLY in the same town.

time sure flies.

and now i'm sleepy, so i must clambor onto my cloud bed to fill the vortex in the middle up with my ass until morning. i shall see you then.

*salutes*

yay for having tomorrow off.

Probably varies with the situation, but the thing that immediately comes to mind is from my Australian mother-in-law...

When visiting Australia, learn quickly to never put your hands anywhere you can't see them without checking first.

Poisonous things are scarrrrrrrry!

Best advice: Someone saying "I love you" does not mean anything but just that and any expectations of behaviour on your part are unfair.

Best advice was from my mom- starting VERY early: "You do not need a man to validate your existance" :-)

absofreakinglutely. i'm certain that we couldn't have gotten on as well as we do if you would be one of those people that turn into simpering 'and then josh came over, and then i hung out with josh and then i dreamed about josh and then i called josh and then josh said and then josh did and then.... JOSH JOSHJOSH"

*violent shudder* i've lost too many friends over the years to men ;)

hee hee.

not to say i want you to be eternally single, oh no. just.. hee hee don't turn into a josh or a robathon. ;)

I don't think I've ever crushed on a guy named josh.
I knew one but he didn't give me the time of day. In my life, apparently you have to be 20+ years older than me to find me remotely attractive (???) heheh

ha ha. and i always cringe greatly when i see people's journals named stuff like 'jonsgirl' or 'kevinswench'. egads. there's more to your identity than being someone's wench. ;)

Always take joy in the simple, little things in life. The big things are just too complicated and go too easily wrong.

that's FANTASTIC advice, and something i always try to live by. i enjoy my walks to work because it allows me to take in a lot of the little things: the color of green, the feel of the wind on my cheek, the way the wind looks as it blows through my favorite willow tree...

A few months before I was supposed to get married (at 17, because that's what you do in Arkansas) this lady I work with sat me down and asked why I was going to marry Cliff. I said "because he's so nice to me". (He was my first boyfriend after growing out of the bab-boy phase.)
She just looked at me and said "Sarah, you can't marry someone just because he's nice to you."
That thought had honestly never occurred to me. Major turning point there. I ultimately called off the wedding and moved to England instead :-)

it never ceases to amaze me about how one simple moment can provide us with such amount of absolute clarity, and thusly changes our lives DRASTICALLY for the better.

fill the vortex in the middle up with my ass

Did anyone else read that as "Fill the vortex in the middle of my ass?" 'cause I did. And no, my mind was not in the gutter when it happened. I had to read it thrice!

Best advice ever? I usually give advice so receiving advice is something I'm handicapped to.

in reading this months later, i thought it said the vortex in the middle of my ass, too ;)

i'm generally not very good at taking advice... or compliments, especially. i never know what to say, though they make me feel good, i also end up feeling really awkward.

When nature's callin'
Don't be stallin'
Use your common sense
Before your let if flow
Find a place to go
Just don't whiz on the electric fence
If you're gonna explode
You can use the commode
of igloos, cave dwellings or tents
No need to explain when you gotta drain
Just don't whiz on the electric fence
You can swizzle on the sofa
Piddle in the air
Tinkle in the toilet
That's why it is there
You can let in rain
In the breakfast lane
While waving at ladies and gents
Just don't whiz on...
Don't whiz on
Don't whiz on the electric fence

"the only opinion that is ever going to matter is your own" it might seem simple or stupid, but when i was going through some things, it helped me and changed my life.
