for you peoples that play final fantasy xi...

okay. after 3 freaking months of trying to get it downloaded onto my computer, i finally succeeded. but since it had been 3 months, a) i was certain my 30 day free trial expired, and b) i couldn't remember/find my playonline ID.

i tried to get started on saturday, but they were closed until tuesday. fine. i've survived 30 1/2 years of my freaking life w/o ffxi, i can certainly wait 3 more days.

so earlier today, i do the online chat thingie and get TSR Jereme. he's rude to me in the way that he condescendingly puts things. i tell him that i understand that he can't give me information about my account until i get the credit card from my brother (which had been used to register the account.) he says "you do that."

*deep breath*

so jess comes home from work, and i get his cc# and try again. this time, i get TSR Gary A. i try to be light hearted and nice and polite and intelligent during the conversation, but still get condescending 'tones' in what he is saying. he gives me my online ID and resets my password. i say 'okay, thank you, you are a godsend. now about my free 30 day trial...' he immediately goes on offense, saying that they don't make it a practice to refund any money or time, and that it's my fault i haven't been able to log in.

i tell him that it's not MY fault that it keeps saying the server is busy, especially since i contacted them and did every single thing that they told me to do. "well, i'm showing you only contacted us once." oh, touche', Gary A.! this is true, but after THREE WEEKS of wrestling with the stupid software, especially since they informed me that making the changes to my computer WOULD WORK, due to working lots, the wedding, the move, everything else, i put playing a stupid online game on the back burner. besides, if their servers are so fucking busy, then maybe traffic will slow down enough in september when everyone goes back to school. i'm sorry for HAVING a freaking real life. but instead of saying this, i say that i understand the situation, i'm sorry that i put it on the back burner, but how on EARTH am i supposed to play a game on a trial basis, when the entire trial period was spent fumbling with the stupid server? he replies "well, as i said before, if you should have contacted us back if you continued to have problems." and hangs up on me.

HE FREAKING HUNG UP ON ME. well, ended the session, anyway.

so i get online to playonline.com, fully intending to send an angry email to the final fantasy Powers That Be. unfortunately, i cannot send them an email, except through my playonline email address, which i cannot get access to, unless i pay the fucking monthly fee.

for those of you that play it, is it really WORTH this freaking trouble, or should i just count my $20 i invested in the box as a loss and take the discs and book out back and burn them with a gallon of gasoline?
