what on EARTH did i do to my foot?

i woke up this morning and cannot move my big toe on my right foot, nor put much weight on it at all, without excrutiating pain. wtf, mate? how the hell am i supposed to work both jobs today?!? in RETAIL? if i go in, i have to leave in ten minutes. i so don't want to call in sick, but egads, a half hour walk to work (okay, possibly 45 due to limping instead of walking), five hours on my feet (a couple of them in the back of a truck unloading thousands of pieces of freight), and then another six hours on my feet? eek. officemax i can almost fathom, because i think that if it's still agonizing by that time, that i would be able to pull a chair from the furniture pad to park it behind my register between customers. i don't even own any aspirin or other pain relievers.

edit: as much as i hate to, methinks i shall call in. i had thought it would give it a go, as it were, but what if i limp all the way there and work an hour just to be blind with pain, and then have to limp all the way home? and pain from moving my toe has elevated to constant massive throbbing pain after putting my shoe on. i just have to wait until 7 to call, because no one will be there until then. (which is when i'm supposed to be arriving)

but egads, i hate calling in and saying "yeaaah. i hurt my foot or something, and can't put my shoe on. how? not a clue. but i swear it hurts!"

hmmmmm.....thats odd. You didn't stub your toe or anything? If a hot shower doesn't help loosen it up, try padding the toe. Put something cushiony under it, and between the big toe, and 2nd toe. That might help, since you'll be on your feet most of the day.

Hope it feels better soon!

it's really eminating more from right behind/under the ball of the foot, moreso than from the big toe. just moving the big toe or putting pressure on the big toe, or looking in the general direction of the big toe causes it to throb and coalesce into a blinding pain.

it feels almost like a sprain or a dislocation, oddly. it feels like it should be massively swollen, but isn't.

i put a heated rice bag on it and it almost seemed to make it worse. it feels a bit better now that it's elevated.

Almost sounds like turf toe, however if you do go or try to fight it DO NOT, take pain meds. They will thin your blood and make your feet throb and hurt with being on them so long.

When I was workiing as a janitor I used them and Had to in order not to fall out from my knee pain. Wow that was the worst me feet have ever felt.

I hope you get better soon, how's about soaking it?

How odd...I'd say maybe you pinched a nerve in there or something...but it kinda sounds worse than that. Hey...with all that walking maybe you have carpal tunnel of the toe.

bah ha, carpal tunnel of the toe ;)

i had ended up just irritating it or something. i ended up going to the free clinic, where it swelled up like a purple snosage. they gave me some prescription strength ibuprofin, and i was right as rain in a few days.

thank doodness, it always freaks me out to think i might not be able to walk for awhile!

I had that happen to me at when I worked at Safeway once. Went to the doctor (because my boss there said that they wouldn't let me come back to work without a note), and was told that it was basically because the padding in my shoes had broken down.

that would make total sense, as i'm the laziest girl in the world when it comes to buying new work shoes. i had invested $180 recently into a pair of burkenstocks, but those KILL my ankles. freaking joy.

I hope you feel better soon! I hate when I wake up to bruising or pain and have no clue where it came from...
