i keep hearing all sorts of stuff that livejournal is planning to do to completely change something that has been so wonderful for the last six years.

a tiny little thing that truly pissed me off and showed me that the end was nigh?

there is now a button on your personal profile that has you determine whether you are male or female.

it had been the little things like THAT, the androgeny, that kept livejournal more of a serious site compared to myspace.

Wasn't it always there? I just checked and mine was set to "male." There's an "unspecified" option too, so you needn't id yourself.

what? I don't see any difference. You've always been able to do that. The annoying thing for ME is that you have never been able to search by sex. :-( Which used to be very important to me, until I miraculously found you and hannah and kate and kitkat and m-kat and and and!!! I'm over it now though, since I don't feel a need to search for my soulfriend. ;-)

IIIIIIII think the difference between LJ and myspace is the lack of ease of narcissism, if you can untangle that. LJ is for people who WRITE, although others are attracted to it too. LJ is text-based -- names are text, rather than images. Myspace is image-based, in more ways than one. It's basically just a bunch of userinfos that link to each other. I don't think LJ will ever turn into a myspace -- it would take a hell of a lot of revamping, changing the userinfo layout won't do it. The majority of LJ would have to leave it for it to be more like myspace.

Myspace only appeals to me for the music -- ironic, since so many people complain about the ubiquitous bands. I have found so much awesome music via myspace! I hope hope hope that music takes it over so much that it becomes musicspace. ;-D

hate it! the only way I'd move would be if ALL of my friends moved over, and maybe not even then! Maybe I'd just blog friendlessly. hmm.

I guess I just sort of started a bunch of blogs throughout the internet *shudders at the word "blog"* and just copying and pasting every entry that I make in here that is... noteworthyish. That way, I can stick with friends that are moving on, as well as make new ones.

the proposed new userinfo design: http://aubkabob.livejournal.com/profile?ver=ng

they say that if they do it, there will be an option to turn it off and stay with the old one. But I like the new one -- I'm just not sure which I like more.

the gender choice was always there - and i did actually have it set to "female" because that info didn't show up on your userinfo and was just for statistical purposes. i've now set it to "unspecified" because of the whole teenybopper ad rumor thing that's floating around. i now also entered in my birthdate and hid it from the general public for the statistics to show that we're not all 18 years old.

you guys are totally right. just seeing all the possible changes a-comin', it's made me super hypersensitive!

and now it's WAY past my bedtime, so away i go!

hey, there's been http://www.livejournal.com/singles/ for a long time. Nobody uses it, though.

They added a male/female button? WTF? I need to see if mine is marked.

(I never look at my User Info page)
Jun. 23rd, 2006 12:36 pm (UTC)
That's always been there. You could choose or just leave it blank.

I've never seen it but I think its a good idea. I don't really think its for anything more than information services. What if a person is a bit squeemish about talking about certain issues with the opposite sex, alot of people here do add me communities and other things where they get or add a buch of people, they don't alway sform a personal bod with them and the topic of gender may never be scanned. Therefore it would be kind of hard to have the person make the decision, we can't do it on icons alone.

The whole thing of myspace is that it tries to relate you to everyone else is, the whole danged extended network t hing just keeps getting bigger and bigger even if you dn't want it to. Also everything has a bictires or almost a rating feature, its just rampid for highschool shananery.

I'm guess I'm either not intrested enough or not popular enough to even hear these conspiracy theories... wow, almost like a mac. hee hee.
