wow, in responding to a gazillion posts from 1847, it made me realize how much things have changed in only one year:

one year ago, i:

- was living with faetal.
- was helping her get ready for her wedding (though, admittedly, not as much as i should have)
- was working full-time at officemax
- was considering working at michaels again, as well
- was a bit too creepily obsessed with someone of the opposite sex

now, i:

- live with my brother and his boyfriend
- work 25-30 hours a week, max
- am halfway through my third quarter in college (something i hadn't even considered doing back then, though it showed up with eerie frequency in my dreams.)
- andrea is married and six months pregnant
- i'm in a band where i'm not the singer and play KEYBOARDS of all things
- i've done improv in front of an entire class on a regular basis, on a shiny lit-up stage
- have no crushes

i'm sure that there's other things, too, that i can't think of. but in the meantime, i needs to gets some coffees into my bellies.

i also see that OKGo hath sold their musical souls to commercials, but come ON - jc freaking penny? at least sell your soul to someone FUN and worth shopping at, like Target!

though i shouldn't complain too much, Ezra sold their souls to McFreakingDonalds awhile back.

and my background foto on my journal seems to have disappeared.

You are aware that the bands don't sell the song, the record companies do and the bands have no control.

The ASCAP means they get their royalties and percentages, but the song and the album itself is the copyright of the record company in terms of selling it and licensing it.

and the BMI as well.

Case in point where this didn't apply.

On HBO's Entourage, a rapper had accidently placed his demo tape in the wrong car. So Vinnie Chase's friend Turtle hears it and thinks it's awesome and perfect for an indie film Vinnie was in. The director says yes, but now ZTurtle has to find out who owns the rights.

In this case the rapper was completely unsigned, so it was up to him to decide to have the song in the movie or not.

But now... he's about to get a record deal. Once that record deal is done... his songs can be used in Aquaman 2 which at them time won't star Vinnie and Turtle and the rapper can do nothing but collect the money for the selling of the song once it's been recorded and relased on an album.

Thank you for helping me to realize that bands are not the evil they seem at times for being in commercials, and to be able to point this out to other people when needed.
