for those of you wanting school supplies: tomorrow at officemax begins our week long sale of elmer's school glue and roseart crayons for only FIVE CENTS EACH. oh, and the peechee folders, too, if'n you need them. what i'm excited about, though i desperately need to ground myself from: the GIANT pack of sharpies that have like 24 or 30 or 500 in them, with all the beautiful colors? FIFTY PERCENT OFF. mmmmmm.... it's so freaking tempting to get one of the regular and one of the ultra fine. but i have sooooo many sharpies. but i don't have them in three different shades of orange!! or five shades of red! i neeeeeeed, or i shall surely perish.

yeah, cuz i use oh so many of the pens that i already have sitting at my desk. actually, the sad thing is that i still have sharpies (though only the 8 ct.) in their original packages in my room, and still in the bag that i bought them in. but i neeeeeeeeed.

i also need to pay bills and crap, too.

and i also need to work at 730 tomorrow morning. bleh.

ooh, and to give you the answers to the old shows i posted last night....

#1 was Greatest American Hero, with that catchy song that still gets stuck in your head. (though i heart to sing the line from mst3k's pumaman "believe it or not! this movie's still on, it should have ended two hours ago-ho-ho...") i remember gaffawing my arse off when i watched the first few episodes, although the guy with his blonde curly hair always creeped me out.

#2 was, of course, MacGuyver. i never watched much of this, believe it or not (iii'm walking on air...), though after watching sg-1 so much, my curiosity is piqued. i remember mom having a HUGE crush on RDA with his feathered mullet. i remember seeing some of the shows, or pieces of, and how the science part of it all fascinated me, though my mind was too young to quite understand a lot of it. i had added this to my netflix queue quite some time ago, it's in there somewhere.

#3 was Manimal. i think almost every single one of you guys got it - BRAVO! it only aired for a couple few episodes, and he mostly turned into a panther or a hawk of sorts, but i remember one episode where he turned into a snake to help his girliefriend get out of quicksand, methinks it was, and one where he turned into a DOLPHIN! i remember thinking how AWESOME that was, and i was horribly saddened when they stopped running the show. until now (and one wisecrack in an mst ep somewhere), i had only been able to find one person that remembered (and loved) the show like i did when i was a kid.

#4 - not ONE of you got this, which surprises me, as it was released in the mid 90's, methinks. if my brother actually read my journal, i'm certain that he would've gotten it, as he and i used to race to the television to watch Models, Inc. i remember the cliff hanger ending of the season (and inevitably the series) when someone shot someone, but we had to wait to see WHO. they never made another episode, so we never found out. grr.

#5 - yup, yup, Night Court. i hear it's in syndication somewhere, but i remember thinking it was funnier in a dry sense of humor way than a lot of other shows, even when i was little. (i just had a flash that i SO should have put Wings in this little thing.)

#6 - of course, The Incredible Hulk. as for the bonus question, the guy in charge of things hated alliterated names which are found so frequently in comic books (a la Peter Parker, Bruce Banner, Clark Kent) and thought the name 'Bruce' was too homosexual sounding, so he instead chose to use his son's name, David. And thusly Hulk's alter ego from the comics, Bruce Banner, became David Banner, RL.

#7 - Hart to Hart. i remember loving to watch this show, though it was on right around my bedtime, so i remember being sleepy for most of the episodes. i don't remember a single plot line, either. for some reason, i want to say that mom would make me go to bed halfway through each episode, that my bedtime was something like 930.

#8 - Moonlighting! another show that i remember gaffawing a lot and loving bruce willis' sense of humor, though i'm certain i would understand the jokes a lot more now. i remember Miss Depesto and the guy that played Booger on revenge of the nerds. i remember how much i wished david and maddie would go steady.

#9 - FLASH!.... AAAAHHH... HE SAVED EVERYONEOFUS!!! dun dun dun dun dun..... i can't count HOW many times i watched Flash Gordon when i was a wee one of five-ish. i did watch it fairly recently and couldn't make it through the whole movie, it stank so bad ;) actually i think i got distracted by something else or had to leave. i also remember suddenly realizing that there was lots of SEX involved with that movie, and certain parts of the plots made so much more sense to me now.

#10 - Clash of the Titans is probably one of thee worst designed movies to have come out in the last couple of decades. i even remember watching it as a kid and thinking that it HAD to be a movie from the 60's or so. but wow, how i loved it, how i loved the cheesy love story behind it. maiden in distress! hero with a sword! scary monsters! who needs more? (honorable mention to the hercules movies with the same general style...)

#11 - Barbarella is pretty much a movie about sex, played out with a pretend plot and in shiny (lack of) clothing. i remember watching this a lot at my dad's house, and not exactly getting what was going on much, but thinking Jane Fonda was pretty. i remember a couple of parts really scaring me, too, but i can't remember why.

#12 - Night of the Comet made me daydream constantly about being one of the only people left on earth, just so i could go to all the malls and wear whatever i wanted to and do whatever i wanted to. heck, i could wear prom dresses constantly and jump on beds! all i had to do was wait until it rained for the first time, so the scary zombie people would go away!

#13 - about half of you that guessed this got this right, the other half that guessed was close. Grease 2 was the correct answer. in this hellacious sequel to Grease, Sandy's cousin Michael moved to town and tried to pretend he was a mysterious motorcycle guy in order to seduce michelle pfeifer. this ended up on heavy rotation on HBO when i was 9, and i remember having slumber parties at my friend crystal's house, and we would perform the movie out, especially the song parts (i want a c-o-o-l.... r-i-d-e-r...), and ESPECIALLY the talent show part where the girls do the seasons. i caught this movie recently and.... i think my brain tried to instantly repress the fact that i once obsessed over this thing ("reproduction - reproduction!") and all of it's unfabulous songs ("i'll be yours in winter.. when the snow is falling dow-hown...")

#14 - House - the movie, not the tv series - was on last night (followed by House: The Second Story). as it stars the guy from greatest american hero, it was what caused me to do the entire giant thing that i did.

and now that song "i'll be your girl for a season, all the year through-hoo. a girl for all the seasons, cuz i lu-huh-ove..." is going through my head. grrrrr. and i just may have gotten the lyrics wrong, but i'm too lazy to go look.

there was something else that i was so going to add, but i can't think of it now.

questions? anything you wanna ask me before i go?

ha ha, my hair is so short in this icon. i'm such a dork.

I too am addicted to sharpies. What it is about them that draws me in I'll probably never know, but I LOVE them.

I've been successful at keeping myself grounded from the Sharpies sales at work, unless they go on super cheap clearance!

Still waaaaaay more than a single human being should own, especially since I never USE the things!

Since you barely even bothered to give us all a chance to guess before posting answers. and when someone decides to pst answers? well, I have no reason left to play.

Yet I want to correct some information for you.

Bruce Banner was made David Banner, not because of the homosexuality thing (there is something about that in a decision on the show, but NOT the name), the name change was because the guy hated named like Bruce Banner, Lois Lane, Peter Parker. Trust me he woulda had Peter become Joe or Sam or something. They say that homosexuality thing cause it sounds rude and offensive. So, yes, it's what MOST everyone says... cept the network themselves and the creator and the reasoning is believable enough. I mean, what's GAY about the name BRUCE? Dick, Peter, those are gay names. BRUCE?

HA! I agree about Dick and Peter being more.. ghey than Bruce. I had never realized how much alliteration had played a part in superheroes' alter ego until I read that.

DUDE I love school supply sales. I go to like every store finding the cheapest glue and shit.
HOW can anyone (in school or otherwise) pass up a 24 pack of crayola crayons for like...10 cents. HOW?!

May. 5th, 2009 01:34 am (UTC)
This last year, we had a massive promotion that was "The Power of the Penny" so most weeks we had boxes of crayons and glue and such for a single penny. Granted, there was a limit of three for each thing, but still.

I am a snob and only buy Crayola, I bet those were stupid Roseart or something lol. Those are so oily and weird.

Clash of the titans! Damn, I could not bring it to my mind to save my life! Heh, the mall scene in Night of the Comet... yeah I think that movie started my fantasies of beign one of the last ones standing too!

Whoo Hooo
I too have a HUGE collection of sharpies... fine broad and regular point. Don't use 'em too much but gotta have 'em!

Thanks for the answers..

As for school supplies.. my 4 year old goes to pre-school.. and as of yet I don't have a list of things he needs.. of course he doesn't start until mid september.

You KNOW I would take advantage of that sharpie sale if I wasn't also such a pen junkie and already have most of the colors... I have a medium-size moving box of art supplies waiting for me back at school, and I'm not kidding you, it has 80+ drafting pens in it. Don't get me started on the colored pencils and paintbrushes.

What's a peechee folder?
May. 5th, 2009 01:37 am (UTC)
Not quite sure as to why they're called peechees, maybe it was the brand they're most known for, like adhesive bandages are called Band*aids and cotton swabs are Q Tips, though that's just a brand, not the item? They're incredibly cheap folders, you open them up and they have a pocket on either side. When I was in school and needed them, you could only get the stupid things with football and basketball on them, usually yellow with black drawings and slightly orangish shading or somesuch.
