Band o the Day: Death Cab for Cutie

Inspired by someone's post, I wanted to bring you some music from the only band that I have fallen in love with since music theory classes has ruined popular music for me.

This video quite reminds me of the day I'm having:

One of my absolutely favorite songs to listen to on my transits:

Cause in my head there's a greyhound station
Where I send my thoughts to far off destinations
So they may have a chance of finding a place
where they're far more suited than here

There's no blame for how our love did slowly fade
And now that it's gone it's like it wasn't there at all
And here i rest where disappointment and regret collide

(Why does it NOT surprise me that his name is Ben?)

And it would be wrong of me to NOT include The Postal Service in this broadcast....

I'm curious: How has music theory ruined pop music for you? ;)

That's what I came here to ask.

Parallel fifths are OKAY. It's only in contrapuntal textures that they are undesirable; in heavy metal, they're great.

I have no idea what any of that means! Haha! What is a parallel fifth? And a contrapuntal texture, for that matter? LOL.

DCforC grates on my nerves, girl. I tried giving them a go. I failed.

They did me at first, too. Then suddenly one day... they clicked. Now, listening to their music makes me feel like I'm in love, like an innocent, first love. The lyrics... wow. And the lead singer/main songwriter (named BEN, no less. I totally thought of you when I found out an hour or so ago!) is so adorable and nerdy. It's cool they're from Washington. NOT cool that their show next month is sold out (playing the same venue as Electric Doormat, no less.)

le sigh.

I think it's his voice? I'm not sure. I have some of their albums on my computer. Any particular songs I should try that might ring true for me?

Of COURSE his name is Ben. What else?! Certainly not STEVE. Steve is never a quirky, genius musician! LOL That is fucking hysterical, though.

Ben Kweller, Ben Lee, and Ben Folds did a mini-tour a few years ago. They dubbed themselves "The Bens". They also put out an EP.

I bet if all the quirky Bens of the music world go together, we'd have an orchestra on our hands!

That first song is one of my favs. The first line is so off-putting to a lot of people. "who the hell starts a song like that??" but when you listen to it, it's just so... genuine and sort-of simple. Beautiful :-)

Now that I've explored the rest of your songs, that last one is one of my favs too.

I hate the guy that introduced me to them, but I love them anyway.

I LIKED Death Cab! I did!

Until my bloody boyfriend played that cd four hundred times over and over.

Now I just want to kill him and switch cds. ;)

But yes, good band.

I like the song. The video with the hole in the floor getting bigger kinda creeps me out.
Death Cab is pretty good. I like Dashboard Confessions more
