Yet another thing happens to cause me to begin to feel ANCIENT.

We turn down the Muzak at work when we're closed and blast the radio. Lately, we've been jamming to a classic rock station.

The fact that they play Guns N Roses and The Black Crows alongside of Creedence, Zep, and The Who makes me feel quite.... dated.

I fail to see how any song less than 20 years old could be considered a 'classic'. It bugs the crap out of me.

YES! Thank you. The Gin Blossoms are NOT classic rock yet!

Yep, the music that I remember from my teens & twenties now falls under the "classic rock" heading. Ugh. :P

I remember hearing these same remarks from my parents when I was wee, and thinking how funny it was that they were so ANCIENT and getting old.

Dude... sometimes they play the GIN BLOSSOMS on Classic Rock stations here. C'mon! that's only been 10 years ago!

Well, ... yup! I had to think about the year difference, I was thinking that it was 20, but I am so off the mark. I was listening to their New Miserable Experience album when I was in job corps in St. Paul, Minnesota, which would have dated it to 1994 - eek, almost fifteen freaking years!!!

YAY! Another random belated Aubrey comment! I always love these :-)

Oh hee! Yes, we're old folks, all right. It's one thing when young-kid bands are influenced by bands I remember from my young days... but somehow having the stuff I liked in my twenties termed "classic rock" just makes me feel ancient!

My coworkers and I were talking about influences and how stuff played today will influence the musicians of tomorrow. I replied that I hope that I NEVER see the day that I see influences for a band listed as Fall Out Boy and Jesse McCartney.

Seems like the timespan required for something to be considered a classic keeps shrinking. Makes me want to play Dead Milkmen's "Instant Club Hit(You'll Dance to Anything)"

And you mentioning teh Dead Milkmen makes me want to run around the office screaming You've got a Methodist Coloring book, and you color really WEEEELLLL! But don't color outside the lines, or GOD will send you to HEEELLLL! 'Cos God hates war, and god hates crime, but mostofall hehatespeople...who COLOR OUT SIDE THE LINES!!!

I still need to check out more Dead Milkmen - they're on my eternal list of "Yanno, I think I would like these guys, I should check them out a bit more.."

I'm what - 3 years older than you? My sister teaches in the town I grew up in. Some of the incoming kindergardeners are my High School classmates grandchildren*.

*Think had a kid at 16 who had a kid at 16 and it works out, scarily enough.

Holy FUCK. I keep thinking about how I'm approaching the age - if I'm not there already - where I can start saying that I'm old enough to be people's grandmother. Well, if I had a baby at 15, and she had a baby at 15...

You'd be from Alabama?

don't feel bad. last night i watched a crowded house concert...on PBS.
Sep. 9th, 2008 04:44 pm (UTC)
Oh that is hilarious on two counts: one, that it was on PBS, and two, that I was instantly sad that I had missed it.
