I'm making me some blackeyed beans.

Any suggestions as to what to DO with them when they're finished?

Oh, keep in mind - I have zero vegetables in the house, other than maybe some canned tomatoes.

Also please keep in mind - I am an awful cook and managed to make a nice pot fulla crunchy beans my last go round. My idea of "exotic seasoning" is salt and pepper.

Oh, we have all sorts of spices, I just don't know how to USE them. Yes, yes, take off lid, shake, yes yes. I mean, what spice does what. I try to figure it out by sniffing, but I think my sniffer is broken.

I put in some garlic salt and some dehydrated onion flakes so far, as well as some hot pepper flakes.

I so wish we had bacon!

you can always pull off a little bit of thecooking liquid (and later the beans when they become.. edible) maybe 1/4 cup or less and add a small amount of spice that you're curious about into that, mix. taste. nuke in the micro for a minute. stir. taste. decide if you like the way it changed or not. try adding a teeny bit to the main pot if you liked the change.. but just a teeny bit. taste often and mess with it often to see if you like where its going.
