I promised a picture story post yesterday, so here it is.

Once upon a time, there was a townhome.

Notice the little garden with the little wooden geese surrounding it. This was how my house looked as I left for the doctor's office Monday morning.

Here is the view from the top of the hill as I headed home from the doctor's.

Inside Walgreen's, I found a tiny radio in a mostly empty aisle with a Reba cd inside.

As I returned from the doctor's, The Nothing had started to take over the townhome.

When Coworker James dropped me off yesterday, I noticed that one of my favorite trees in the complex had been destroyed.

I heard the sound of a wood chipper further into the complex and feared what I would find. Both of our GIANT, OLD BEAUTIFUL TREES had been destroyed. (Our townhome is the one in the middle on the right.) This was taken seconds before brosely came stomping out of the apartment to find the manager and give him a stern talking-to.

Our entryway was covered in mud. (Plus a Bacci ball.)

But we have two new toilets!

I assume they're MUCH more water efficient. (As I was taking this picture, I said "This is where I drop my $400 phone into the toilet.")

These were laying in our kitchen/dining room. We weren't quite certain what they were for or how important they were, so... they're sort of still there. Yes, I got Bacci a water bowl that says "Good Dog".

Here is our tiny kitchen! Three people can uncomfortably fit in here at the same time in order to prepare three different dishes. This picture is to also prove to vivapink that we have many boxes of open cereal (seen to the right.) Yes, that blue thing hanging on the stove is a ShamWoW(tm). You may be jealous now.

My favorite magnet. I bought it on clearance at work along with a few others that said things like Dream, Note, Hottie (which I bought for Jess to put on the picture of stanieldaniel on the fridge), and such. Above it is a loverly one created and sent to me by kittytreats!

We then ventured upstairs and thought all was normal (except the new potty) until you turn to leave and see this. The darkest part of the hole is where you can see into the boys' bedroom.

Our tub was filled with debris and toiletries. We have a new faucet in there and a new showerhead (they ran off with the one the boys bought) and left us this soppy, wet kleenex box.

I know that there's a pun in here somewhere utilizing the words "apartments" and "down the toilet". (My front yard when I came home today.)

All of these pictures were taken on my loverly new phone.

Notice there are zero pictures of the cat. Bacci has disappeared during the day for the last few days. She reappeared on my bed right as I nodded off to sleep, stepping on my foot and scaring half the life out of me. (She had been hiding in my room - I usually keep her out of there, especially when I sleep.)

In other news, Henry Weinhard's Belgian Style Wheat is GOOD.

Ugh, I cannot stand contractors who are animals! "fast and dirty to get it done." Morons...I have a feeling the new management is going to lose a lot of tenants or a lot of rent this month.

My brother was talking to someone that said that the people working in everyone's apartments are used to working only on brand new units without residents. About 1/3 of the apartments are already empty (if not half) and the new manager keeps swearing up and down that he's not raising the rent. We'll see how well that goes.

The garden is also 100% mush now. I don't think even the wooden geese made it.

That's such a disaster. I hope they get it looking a lot nicer soon.

No freaking doubt, though the fact that they got rid of our BELOVED TREES OMG was almost a nail in a coffin. If we had effort + money + decent credit, we would SO be out of here ;)

I'm sad to see the trees go.

But hooray G1! I have that same case.

I'm so afraid of killing it!

I really should try to make it back in the 14 day period so I can exchange it for a black one. I hate not being able to see the keys.

The window shown in the pictures are the boys' room, mine is on the other side. There's a whole line of trees that run behind my bedroom and blocks the apartment complex from the park. I'm totally terrified that they're going to get rid of those, too.

Oh shit! I am sorry that they trashed your place like this!
Feb. 26th, 2009 03:50 am (UTC)
It's been an adventure. We thought it would all be over by tomorrow, as that was the final date on the notice of entry, but they posted a new one today extending it through Monday.

How very funny :) We have narrowed it down by at least two boxes, so we're getting better!

Its really sad to see all those tress go I think I know why they did it but its still sad. I think they did it for the same reason for the gift of new toilets and plumbing, cost effectiveness. Toilets that are more efficient means lower water bill, New plumbing means less cost on repair, no trees means no roots breaking sewers, and so on and so on. Next time they swear they aren't raising rates ask them to put it in writing.

As if I didn't have enough stuff weird me out today the picture of you house and around it kind of weird me out because its very much like I thought it would look like, not exactly but very close. I'm terribly surprised that they didn't give you notice about what was going to happen and the scope, like to tell you to remove all items from the bathroom and how they had the old units was just horrible. Even if they don't intend to trash the old units its just terrible to have them piled on the lawn like that.

Hope things work out better.

Maybe because I've posted pictures of my place a few times before? The toilets are STILL in the front lawn, days later. I wonder if that could be construed as a health risk of some kind? We also have no outside porch light. With a light dusting of snow we had fall yesterday, it looked almost post-apocalyptic.

did they even BOTHER to give you 24 hours notice? what douches!

they totally violated your space and destroyed things. that is fucked up.
Feb. 27th, 2009 05:33 pm (UTC)
Oh, they did - gave us the required two day notice of entry, with a four day span of possibility. When it hit the fourth day, we received another extending it until Monday. Still a hole in our bathroom, still misc. pieces of metal on our kitchen floor, still a terrified cat.
Feb. 26th, 2009 06:03 am (UTC)
nice. i like your kitchen even though the nothing is eating your complex. sad that they cut down the trees though. I love the trees in my complex, but they management company keeps cutting them down too. assholes.
Feb. 27th, 2009 05:34 pm (UTC)
As cheesy as it sounds, I almost feel as if trees are spiritual creatures in their own right, so it feels like murder, in a way.

Feb. 26th, 2009 06:31 am (UTC)
What was the reason behind taking down the trees?
Feb. 27th, 2009 05:35 pm (UTC)
No idea. I'm wondering if they're doing it because they're replacing all of the plumbing in the complex and don't want the roots to interfere, or if because with them removed, the complex looks larger and cleaner...?

No idea. Either way, it's fucked up.
Feb. 26th, 2009 07:35 am (UTC)
Funny enough one of the reasons I pushed for that apartment originally was I really liked all the trees. That sucks.
Feb. 27th, 2009 05:35 pm (UTC)
Sucks beyond words. I'm going to be BEYOND pissed-er if they take the trees blocking our complex from Ghetto Park.
Feb. 26th, 2009 07:45 am (UTC)
Those things laying on the floor are the water shutoff valves for the toilets.
Feb. 27th, 2009 05:37 pm (UTC)
Aha! So, probably no longer needed. We can't understand - if the plumbers are to not return - why they didn't replace our kitchen knobs, too, as those are totally falling apart.

The lack of communication on the management's part is the worst of all. If they had given us fair warning about all the stuff that was going to happen, other than a note of "new siding! new plumbing! no higher rent!" that we got...

Secksee photo btw.

Wow, I would be livid if I was in your shoes. I hate when people do lazy, half-assed jobs like that.

And what is the point of removing that tree? I'm really tired of seeing so many barren, treeless apartment complexes cropping up left and right in this city. Such ugly, ugly landscapes. At the rate this development is going, we might as well be living in a desert.
Feb. 27th, 2009 05:39 pm (UTC)
It wasn't even ONE tree, it was every tree in the middle of the complex (our complex forms a flattened "o") and HOPEFULLY SO HELP ME GOD NOT the trees surrounding the complex and separating us from the park and Andresen and such. That just happened to be the tree that I had a ready-ish photo of. We had three (I had thought it was two, but there was a third, smaller tree nearby) near our front lawn. No more squirrels for Bacci to chitter at through the window!!
Feb. 26th, 2009 06:42 pm (UTC)
You have a nice, clean kitchen. And I AM jealous of your possession of a ShamWOW.
Feb. 27th, 2009 05:40 pm (UTC)
You caught us on a good day - with so many belongings, so many people utilizing the room, and so little space, it gets dirty quite easily. stanieldaniel cleaned it for the plumber and inspection.
