Okay, okay. I will be one of the ones to totally agree that vampires are TOO entirely popular lately. With news of each and every new film or show to be released featuring all that is vampire, I roll my eyes a bit more.

I will be the first to admit that even with all of that overhype and such, I stupidly got roped into the whole True Blood phenomenon, and later the books.

I finished book nine of the Sookie books last night.

Let's discuss!!!

[Shallie, I'm so looking at you!]

Oh, yeah. I hadn't had any interest reading those books before seeing the show. My friend Lori is more into the romancy type stuff, which is what I figured it was. It's deeper than that. I'm glad that I saw part of the show before starting to read - I was thusly reading it in a southern twang, which made the dialect so much better. (When my brother started reading them, he was like "...really??!?" until I told him they're in the DEEEP SOUTH, and then it made sense to him, too...)

Not overly ZOMG THE BEST BOOKS EVUR, but certainly entertaining. I fell into the whole, um, Twatlight for a bit, but this doesn't have the whole obsession thing... vamps can't go out in daylight, there's, um... a coupla sex scenes here and there (not NEARLY as graphic as season one of the show) without turning the whole series into smut.

Spoilers ahead!
YES! This is the most exciting thing to happen today!!!!!!!!! I have questions questions questions and I want to know what you think!!!

From last night's convo on FB, we've established preference for Team Eric over Team Bill with a slight curiosity as to how Alcide will be cast.

a) What did you think about how book 9 came together story-wise with the stories that lead up to it?
b) What did you think of Eric tricking Sookie? c) How do you think the story with Sookie and Eric will play out?
d) What do you think of Sookie seeing Bill in a new light after all of that breakup drama from book 3-9?

Love love LOVE True Blood the series. It's so vibrant and stylized that I figured these books were going to be positively mind blowing.

The books themselves? Well, after reading them, Charlaine Harris strikes me as more of an idea person than a true novelist. Her writing seems...I don't know, maybe...youngish? Immature? I can't place my finger on it, but it just doesn't seem very polished.

In the end, I can't say I didn't enjoy them all, but more in the way that I enjoy a Big Mac: I know it's not giving me much that I need, but I'm satisfied enough.
